Welcome to the Cricket Club.

The Pitch

As a member of the Wine Trade Sports Club Cricket Club you will have the pleasure of playing on some of the finest wickets in the South of England. From one of the Essex County team's training ground in Coggleshall to the hallowed turf of Eton College; from the HAC in the heart of the square mile to the delightful Surrey village of Dunsfold, with its convenient picturesque pub on the green. Although we don't have our own pitch, many of our games take place at the beautiful ground of the Royal Hampton Wick CC in Bushy Park, South West London.

The Season

Annually the season consists of about 15 fixtures from May until mid September mostly played on Wednesday or Friday afternoons, or Sundays. Whilst the standard could best be described as 'quality village cricket', former England test players have previously graced the field under the WTSC flag however players of all abilities are most welcome to participate!

Team Selection

Each fixture has its individual match captain who you can contact in advance of a game to reserve your place in a team. There is also a Cricket WhatsApp group so please make sure you are added to this for all the up to date team news. You can play as much or as little as you wish and we are always looking for new members of any age and ability to join the squad. If you are not yet a member and wish to join the WTSC Cricket please click here to become a member.

The Oporto Tour

The highlight for the Club is 'The Oporto Tour' which normally occurs every three years. It incorporates a trip up the Douro Valley to visit and stay in some of the key Port Quintas in the heart of the valley as well as visits to the Lodges in Vila Nova de Gaia. Most importantly we play a couple of games against the long established 'British Club' whose pitch lies in the heart of the beautiful city of Oporto. The next tour to Oporto is likely to be in 2022 so plenty of time to get in some practice.

Results, Trophies & Statistics

'The Cricketer Cup' is awarded to the club's Cricketer of the Year for their all round achievement. The “Julian Bidwell Trophy” is eponymously named in honour of trade legend and retired cricketer, and awarded to the most remarkable individual performance or event in any given game. The “Jan Critchley-Salmonson Trophy”, in memory of Jan who was a stalwart of the cricket team for many years, is awarded to the batsman scoring the highest individual innings in the season.
